This year, we are thrilled to honor founding Ensemble Member Michael Shannon and founding Board Member Christian Chadd Taylor. Both Michael & Chadd have contributed so much to the history of A Red Orchid and we would not be where we are today without them.
About Michael Shannon:
Michael Shannon has been a part of A Red Orchid since its first production, The Connection, in 1993, for which he designed the poster and wrote the director’s note in the program. He has appeared in “oodles” of Red Orchid productions, most recently playing Jim in Pilgrim’s Progress, Eddie in Gagarin Way and Ralf in Mr. Kolpert. Michael originated the role of Peter in Tracy Letts’ Bug which premiered at A Red Orchid before playing off-Broadway and being adapted into a major motion picture. Michael has numerous Chicago credits at Steppenwolf, Lookingglass, and Famous Door, but he has also been seen in New York City, London, Louisville, and Pittsburgh. He has appeared in several films and has been nominated for two Academy Awards.
About Christian Chadd Taylor:
Christian Chadd Taylor began work with A Red Orchid Theatre in 2000. Tasked with building an active and supportive board, starting with just himself and Guy Van Swearingen, Chadd served as president (and after moving to San Francisco, as co-president) until 2014. During that timespan, the funding, budget, and adminstrative aspects of the AROT grew and strengthened substantially, and the board developed into a fully-functioning and critical component. He came to the theatre as a partner with Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he handled major intellectual property and technology cases in federal and state courts throughout the country. He would become a producer and financier of over a dozen on- and off-Broadway plays, including award-winning productions such as Tribes and the Book of Mormon. After leaving big law in 2013, he founded a natural wine importation company (Bille Blanche), a film production company (Plot Four Productions) and a cue sports coaching and training company (Target Pool) and currently enjoys developing these business and pursuing his love for rock climbing, the outdoors, and cultural immersion through travel and language learning. He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors for A Red Orchid Theatre and The San Francisco Playhouse, San Francisco, California, where he resides.
