George Dandin
by Moliere
Directed by Richard Cotovsky
George Dandin (or "The Confounded Husband") is the
hilarious chronicle of the troubles of a noveau-riche man's
attempts to better himself through marriage to an aristocratic
younger wife. In this translation by Albert Bermel, Moliere
hysterically skewers the self interest and jealousy that arise
in such situations. When George Dandin discovers his wife
is cheating on him, his hilarious attempts to prove her infidelity
only end up backfiring on him. In the end he can only resign
himself to his new "place in society" `that of the
confounded husband.
